Aimhigher Day - Salisbury High School Students

Oh behalf of the Yr9 students from Salisbury High School, I would like to thank everyone on the Aimhigher team for a very enjoyable and informative day. Activities were pitched just at the right level and our students came away with a very positive attitude towards university life.

Mr B. Foster
Head of Yr9

Hi Deano

Many thanks for setting up our aim higher project with you. Our students have clearly been committed and had their self esteem raised through your course.

Clearly their motivation has heightened and this is evident through their attendance record, even attending during their half term break.

The group was genuinely saddened when the project came to an end and they would like to now mentor others, sharing the skills that they have gained from you. We are going to continue to meet as a group back here at the college and will be printing our images onto tee shirts in the near future.

I really believe that this project has clearly helped motivate these students, raised their aspirations and made them far more independent learners.

Many thanks from them, and myself (Mr Wilkin), Suzanne and staff.

Thank You letter from Ferndown Upper School - August 2007

We wanted to write a short letter to say a big thank you for all the support you have provided us with this year.  Our students have really benefited from the experiences that Aimhigher have provided and we are sure they are now in a better position to make informed decisions about their futures.

We have had excellent feedback from the Awareness Day earlier this month and the students again appreciated the opportunity to meet and talk with current students.  The lunch in the bar was also well received!!!

Can you please pass on our thanks to Jason & Tracey and wish them well in their final year.  We hope that we are able to continue to work closely together next year.

Yours sincerely

Interview Skills Day for Avon Valley School Students - July 2007

Dear Liz

Thank you for your input at our Year 9 Interview Skills Day. Your ambassadors were excellent - engaging even our most recalcitrant students: please convey our thanks to them. From the evaluations completed by students it is clear that they gained a lot from the day and that many more young people are considering higher education as an option. A real result!

Have a good summer - when and if it returns.

We look forward to working with you again in the future.

Yours sincerely

Deano,

Thank you and your team for a delightful day at the Institute yesterday. I very much appreciated your agenda mapped out for the day, the input by many of the staff, tours and of course for the lunch for myself, Sue and all the students. They may not have said so, but they told me this was their highlight! It was very good for us to see both our groups of level two students mixing with each other and working in new groups on topics.

Many made some very good contributions and presentations back. (I would appreciate some of the drawings back if we could pick these up after you have finished with them). This would allow me to go through them with Tracey to see what was covered with her group.

It made a number of impressions on many students, helping them to understand where, or how they might enter into HE in due course. Some have also had their eyes opened to other areas, which they had not considered so far. The students from both groups have all been speaking about it today, they might not have had many questions for you, but the did ask me many today!

I think this year's trip went really well, despite the rocky start with the coach and I look forward to future visits in the future. Thank you all again, well done!
I will be in touch shortly.

Regards

Fred Neale

Success story for AL1 Schools, Colleges & Community - 13th February 2007

I am writing to thank you very much for arranging for two of your students to attend our Yr 9 Progression Evening on Tuesday 13th February 2007.

The information leaflets that were available were useful and the idea of having 'actual students' present to explain things and to talk to parents made the stand a focus in the centre of the main hall. Please pass on our very grateful thanks to the two students (Tracey Knight, Kim Riley) who came along and gave up some of their time to help out at a very successful evening.

I look forward to working with you more closely in the future and once again would like to thank you and the students.

Best wishes

All feedback was extremely positive, the students who visited were buzzing with their experience and passing on their enthusiasm to other students.

It was very worthwhile, thank you!

Tony also had some very positive things to say about our students also which was very pleasing- the last group in particular was reported to be 'the best group he had had'

These comments are important to us particularly as we have an Ofsted coming up!  Many thanks

Successful partnership with The Arts Institute at Bournemouth and The Bishop of Winchester School

To The Arts Institute at Bournemouth & Aimhigher

The Bishop of Winchester School has been enjoying a partnership with the Arts Institute for a number a years through the Aimhigher programme. Most recently Year 9 have been participating in a series of Adobe Photoshop workshops with the Aimhigher Design Pathway.

I understand you lead and manage this area of Aimhigher work, I would like to feedback about these workshops.

The project delivered by the design pathway leader whilst assisted by two of your students has been a tremendous success. The quality of work produced by our students has far exceeded my expectations. Year 9 students have created work on a par with Year 11 standards. I am very pleased with the structure and content of the project,

The progress and learning of students through the course has been outstanding. Students have gained skills and knowledge of Photoshop to a standard where they are semi-independent learners. Given their prior attainment and subject knowledge students have produced GCSE coursework well above their predicted grades.

Please could you pass on my thanks and appreciation to the Aimhigher team for their hard work in structuring, planning and delivering the Year 9 project. We shall look forward to continued partnership work in the future.

Successful Taster Day run by the School of Design Engineering and Computing with Blandford School - December 2006

Many thanks for organising our Bmth Uni experience on 1st December 2006.
We had an unusual situation this year whereby almost all our students expressed an interest in going to uni but were unconvinced until they’d spent the day at Bmth. The day was excellent and the taster sessions in particular were first class. I would be most grateful if you would extend our gratitude to David Newell and his team for such a well prepared, interesting and rewarding experience.

One student in particular commented that she had never succeeded in any IT work until that day! She kept telling me. Several other students were extremely impressed with the friendly and supportive approach of all the staff including your ambassadors.  Since then all but one student has submitted an application to UCAS and the remaining student is going to college. All in all a very high success rate.

Thank you once again

Best Wishes

Successful ConneXL Day feedback - 21st November 2006

Just wanted to say a very big thank you for organising our trip yesterday. I considered it to be very successful and I hope the evaluations forms from the students reflect this. The students listened well and seemed to enjoy the tour and seeing an aspect of university life - most, if not all, for the first time.

Your staff, especially Jason Shanks (Access & WP Assistant) - should be commended for his engaging manner and he seemed to develop a good rapport with our students very quickly. I hope that the day did make some of them realise that university may be an option for them at some stage in their lives.

So thank you again for providing this opportunity.
Kind Regards

Festival of Design and Innovation - July 2006

On behalf of Budmouth Technology College, I would like to thank you and the staff at the University for the programme arranged for the students from the College.  The students were impressed with many of the ideas on display.  Hopefully, each student from Budmouth will be encouraged by the visit which will lead them on to quality work themselves.

Many Thanks
